Thus, the Boy Runs Through the Labyrinth Volume 1  Chapter 1 part 4

The temple was filled with painful silence and the deep, dark power of the abyss. At its center, two humans stood.

One was a tall girl praying silently in the light. Her long, wavy silver hair framed her beautiful face and mature body, an unsettling mix that captivated men.

The other was a man in his mid-thirties watching her from the back of the temple. He was emaciated, his eyes severe behind his glasses.

He quietly descended from the altar and stood before the girl.

“The time has come.”

He spoke to the girl in a stern voice. She stood up calmly at his words.

“We have given our all. Everything we have is in you now. The rest is up to you.”

“Yes.”

She accepted his words directly.

“Once this starts, we can do nothing more for you. You will be alone.”

“Yes.”

“You must face a harsh fate. Many enemies will attack you. You will have few allies.”

“Yes.”

“Forgive us.”

His last words were a barely audible whisper. His stern face crumbled, and he covered it with his hands, unable to hold back his anguish.

“Forgive us…please. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry… We…”

His voice broke into a sob. A scream escapes. The words of repentance are squeezed out as if scratching his head, but are cut off in mid-sentence. The girl quietly embraced him.

“It’s alright. Please leave it to me.”

Her voice was soothing and melodic, bringing a small measure of peace to the man. He collapsed to the ground, drained.

“I will risk my life to save you all.”

She gently stroked his forehead and, smiling, turned to face the giant, glowing door at the center of the temple.

“I’m going.”

With those words, she vanished through the door.

“Sorry for straddling you. Are you hurt?”

“Just put on some clothes, you’re naked!”

“No, I’m not.”

“You’re not!?”

The naked girl straddling him bowed apologetically. Ur groaned, turning his eyes away to avoid looking at her. He couldn’t bear to look directly at her. It wasn’t out of embarrassment—it was something else entirely.

The figure in front of him was too beautiful to be human.

Even in this dire situation, in the deepest part of this terrifying labyrinth, he couldn’t take his eyes off her. A primal urge to embrace her rose within him. He knew that if he did, he would be trampled by the boar in an instant. Despite this knowledge, the urge was overwhelming.

Would there be greater joy in his future than dying after experiencing her?

This irrational thought crossed his mind.

[BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!]

“Huh!”

The boar’s roar snapped Ur back to reality. Ironically, the very creature trying to crush him saved his sanity.

[BUUUUUUUUUUUUUG!!!!]

The boar was furious. Naturally, it was because the labyrinth’s “core,” the [True Core Magic Stone], had been shattered. It wasn’t Ur’s fault, but the enraged boar wouldn’t care about such excuses. In other words, Ur was going to die.

“This is bad, I’m going to die.”

“Don’t worry.”

As Ur despaired, the silver-haired beauty stood up and turned to face the boar. She was stunning even as she stood, unflinching against the massive tusks of the enraged beast.

“Evil creature born of malice, though your life holds no sin, if you stand in the way of my mission—”

She brought her hands together in front of her chest in a prayer-like gesture.

“—I will defeat you and bear your life as my burden.”

In the next moment, a [Power] began to swirl around her.

The energy known as [Magic Power], believed to be the source of all phenomena in this world, started to gather around her.

“Take this.”

She whispered, and a massive fireball, a [Spell], appeared before her. The fireball moved straight towards the giant tusked boar at her command—

[…………Moo?]

It delivered nothing more than a warm, gentle breeze to the boar.

“……Huh?”

“Oh my.”

The fireball, which had appeared so impressive, merely brushed the boar’s fur lightly before passing by. Ur couldn’t decide whether to laugh or not at the absurd scene. The silver-haired beauty, who had launched the spell, raised her hand after witnessing the result.

“May I have a moment, please?”

[BUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!]

The giant tusked boar roared in anger.

“There’s no time-out!!!”

Ur grabbed the beauty and ran with all his might. Their destination was the hidden storage prepared by that damned foreman.

“Who the hell are you!? Why did you suddenly appear!? And what about the True Core Magic Stone!?”

“It seems to have shattered, probably due to expending its magic power.”

“Damn it!!”

Having lost the only effective (potentially) shield against the monstrous boar, Ur cursed bitterly. The silver-haired girl looked extremely apologetic, but it was little consolation.

The interior of the hidden storage they had escaped to wasn’t very spacious. It was likely a room from the original ruins, repurposed as a hidden vault. It was filled with heaps of gold and silver coins, but they had no use for those now.

[BUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!]

They needed a way to deal with the rampaging giant tusked boar outside.

“Is there anything here… A weapon, anything…!”

The sound of impacts repeated. The wooden door separating them from the boar was beginning to creak. It was only a matter of time before it shattered.

“Are you looking for something?”

“Weapons, armor, tools, anything useful. We’ll die if we don’t find something.”

“Understood,” she nodded and began to look around just like Ur.

“I’ll help.”

“Please do, before the door gets smashed.”

Despite her extremely unconventional entrance, Ur was somewhat relieved that she at least understood the urgency of the situation.

And then, some time later

“So that’s all I found: …… “

“I’m glad we have clothes,” Ur said.

“It really is …… “

After a while, they found some supplies:

  • A fuel-powered lamp and fuel

→ There was quite a bit of fuel. It seemed to be for lighting before the place became a labyrinth.

  • A tattered priest’s robe stored at the back of the storage

→ Probably not brought in by the foreman, so it must have been here originally. Ur put the least damaged one on the silver-haired girl.

  • Cosmetics

    → Same as above.

That was all they found. In conclusion, nothing of much use.

“They could have at least prepared a weapon…”

But it made sense. This was originally just a hidden storage in the ruins, not a part of the labyrinth. Weapons wouldn’t be here. Having clothes to put on the naked girl was a small blessing.

    “Are your shoes alright?”

The girl asked. She was wearing Ur’s shoes along with the tattered robe.

“You can’t run barefoot. I still have my tattered, repeatedly stitched socks, so I’ll manage.”

    “Can we escape?”

    [BUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!]

The boar’s enormous roar echoed again. The door was already full of holes from the tusks, revealing the boar’s bloodshot eyes and massive tusks. The end was near.

“First, I’ll dash out. While the boar is focused on me, you run past it.”

    “What about you?”

“I have a job to secure this storage.”

Ur had a mission to secure this storage. Unless he dealt with the rampaging giant tusked boar outside, nothing could be done. He didn’t know who the silver-haired girl was, but he couldn’t drag her into this reckless, life-threatening battle.

“Move quietly and don’t draw the boar’s attention. If you do that…”

    “I refuse.”

She interrupted before he could explain further. “Huh?” he was about to ask, but she entwined her long, white fingers with his.

    “I cannot sacrifice you.”

“Thanks for the romantic line, but you’ll just get trampled if you rush out there.”

If someone had to be bait, it should be Ur, who had a reason to deal with the boar. It was more logical (though he hated it).

“If you don’t want to die, run properly. I can’t look after you while escaping.”

The girl stared intently at Ur.

“Why are you doing this for me?”

“I just don’t want to hear the sound of a girl being crushed into mince. Return the shoes later.”

Even outside the city, being chased by monsters meant the slowest and most sluggish—usually women and children—were the first to die. Ur had seen it many times, and it never felt good. He just wanted to avoid that.

    “Understood.”

There wasn’t time to ask “What?” again. The boar charged once more. The door gave a fatal creak. It shattered and scattered before them, and even the surrounding walls were crumbling. Ur took a deep breath to expel his fear and steeled himself.

“We’ll go out before the next charge. As I said earlier—”

    “I refuse.”

    “What?”

    “I will fight too.”

In the next instant, the silver-haired girl rushed out. Ur, startled, hastily followed her.

    [BUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!]

The giant tusked boar roared at the two enemies that had emerged.

[BUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!]

“Shut up…!!”

Ur cursed at the boar’s deafening roar, which seemed to tear his ears off. Otherwise, fear would have paralyzed his legs.

He saw the silver-haired girl move to his diagonal position, clearly not intending to run away. She really planned to fight this giant boar with him.

[BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU……!!]

The giant tusked boar turned its tusks towards Ur. Its first target was apparently him. Its muscles bulged, ready to charge.

“Perfect…!”

Ur hadn’t proposed to be the bait without a plan. He threw a perfume bottle, with a sickeningly sweet scent, straight into the boar’s giant nostril.

[BUGO!!!?]

A small shattering sound, and the perfume splattered. The liquid covered the boar’s nose, making it scream.

“Gotcha…!”

He didn’t know what kind of creature the giant tusked boar was, but its huge nose between its tusks couldn’t be useless. If the perfume hit, it should deal damage.

[BU────]

That was his plan. And the result was—

[BUGYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!?!?]

“…………!!!?”

The situation only worsened.

Ur had no way of knowing, but the giant tusked boar relied on its sense of smell for over ninety percent of its perception. Throwing a strong-smelling perfume was akin to throwing poison.

However, adventurers and knights who understand the Great Fang Boar generally don’t do things like depriving it of its sense of smell. They don’t exploit such obvious weaknesses. Because,
