The Exiled Merchant Volume 1 Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Trao Trading Company

After defeating the Four Heavenly Kings, Trao disbanded the Hero’s Party.

In addition to the initially promised reward of 1,000 gold coins, he paid an extra 1,000 coins for defeating two of the Four Heavenly Kings, totaling 2,000 gold coins for each participant.

Trao reclaimed all the legendary equipment he had provided.

Some participants wanted to keep the equipment instead of the reward.

“We defeated the Demon Lord. Shouldn’t we get to keep the equipment as a memento?”

For adventurers and knights, this equipment was highly coveted, so such requests were understandable.

“Sure. Just pay me 30,000 gold coins for it,”

Trao replied with his usual polite smile.

“Come on, that’s not fair! We’re comrades who fought together, aren’t we?”

30,000 gold coins was an amount no individual could afford.

The participant who wanted the equipment persisted, asking for it to be given for free.

“Comrades?”

Trao snorted.

“You know, I’m strict about money, even with comrades. Strict enough to strip equipment from dead comrades.”

Trao displayed a chilling, cold smile as he clenched his right fist.

It was a frightening expression, unimaginable from his usual demeanor.

Seeing this, the participant who wanted the equipment couldn’t say anything more and quietly returned it.

Those who had worked alongside Trao knew well that he would use any means necessary when push came to shove. They also knew how terrifying he could be as an enemy.

And so, the Hero’s Party that saved the world came to an end after a short period of activity.

In fact, the kings of various countries were secretly relieved at the disbandment of the Hero’s Party.

A powerful group that had defeated the Demon Lord and the Four Heavenly Kings was nothing but a threat to them.

If they became allies, it wouldn’t be a problem, but if they sided with an enemy country, it could lead to a situation that threatened the very existence of their nations.

If the Hero’s Party had continued to exist, many countries might have joined forces to destroy them.

Considering this possibility, Trao swiftly disbanded the Hero’s Party and reclaimed the overpowered equipment. The legendary equipment would end up stored away in Trao’s item bag.

Trao and Garnet returned to their base, a small house.

After being away for so long, Rio and the others could finally relax.

“I have something to talk about,”

Trao called out to Rio and the others after resting for a night.

“I’m thinking of quitting being an adventurer and living as a merchant.”

Rio and the others weren’t particularly surprised by these words.

Anyone could see that Trao was more suited to being a merchant than an adventurer.

“So, I’d be happy if you all would help me. What do you think?”

Rio and the others exchanged glances.

Garnet had gained both skill and fame as an adventurer.

Trao had paid them properly, so they had plenty of money.

The reward for those who had been with Trao from the beginning was 30,000 gold coins.

It was enough to live a life of leisure forever.

In other words, Rio and the others could live any kind of life they wanted.

Seeing Rio and the others not responding, Trao began to sweat.

Feeling uneasy, he kept opening and closing his hands.

He looked like a child about to be scolded by a parent.

“W-What do you think?”

Trao asked again. His voice, unlike his usual confident tone, sounded anxious and on the verge of tears.

Seeing this, Rio and the others burst out laughing.

Trao was dumbfounded by their reaction.

“It’s fine, Senpai,”

Rio said with a broad smile.

“We’ll stick with you till the end. Let’s become the world’s greatest merchant!”

“I enjoyed creating various things with you, Senpai, so I’m okay with doing that kind of work,”

Dominique answered, removing the hood from her head. She no longer seemed to care about her curly hair.

“But no more dangerous potions, okay?”

“I guess I’ll help out since I have no choice,”

Lilith smiled gently.

“Without me, you might do terrible things, Senpai. You need someone to keep an eye on you, after all.”

“…Yeah, thank you,”

Trao replied, looking down. His voice still sounded like he was about to cry.

And so, Trao Trading Company restarted with the four of them (they had been using the name Trao Trading Company even when they were adventurers).

Although it was a restart, they already held various rights in different countries and had more than enough funds, so the scale of their operation expanded instantly.

Led by Trao and with executives who were former adventurers, they could handle rough jobs and had connections with various countries, making them a greatly feared entity among other trading companies.
