The Exiled Merchant Volume 1 Chapter 11

Chapter 11: Raiga, the Beast King

The hundreds of volunteers Trao had gathered for the Demon King subjugation gradually dropped out during their journey to the Fairy Lake. Now, only slightly over a hundred chosen ones remained.

These became Trao’s hero unit.

The legendary swords, shields, and armor they had prepared were prioritized for the vanguard, making their equipment impregnable.

Trao and Rio also planned to don this gear.

“Now, we just wait for the right time,”

Trao said as they continued training the hero unit in a secret location.

“The right time?”

Rio asked, hearing those words.

“Yes, the right time. It will come soon.”

Shortly before this, the Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon King’s army had finally been released and returned to their posts.

They were fed up with the suspicious Bastouza, but unable to defy him, they planned to take out their anger on humans.

However, upon returning to their posts, they found their subordinates obsessed with purple potions, unwilling to work properly. Even killing a few as examples didn’t work, as the potion’s effects had their subordinates in an excited state, making fear-based control ineffective.

“Is this potion really that good?”

Raiga, one of the Four Heavenly Kings, became curious. As a tiger beastman, Raiga was more instinct-driven than rational, and couldn’t resist his curiosity.

No one dared stop the short-tempered Raiga, who was a giant even among the tiger race, which was already larger than humans.

Raiga gulped down a potion he took from a killed subordinate, but while he felt some excitement, it didn’t have much effect.

The potion, even though made for monsters, wasn’t potent enough for Raiga’s strong resistance.

“Hmph, what rubbish,”

Raiga said, crushing the empty bottle in disappointment.

Then, one of his tiger race aides stepped forward.

“Lord Raiga, perhaps you’d like to try this,”

the aide said, holding a deeper purple potion. It was the raw liquid Trao had used at the Fairy Lake.

“What’s that?”

“The merchant selling the potions left this, saying, ‘Give this to Lord Raiga if he shows interest in the potions.'”

This aide was a heavy potion user. Trao had exploited this, giving him the raw potion for Raiga in advance.

“Let me see that,”

Raiga snatched the potion, opened the lid, and sniffed it.

It had a unique smell but didn’t seem poisonous.

He drank it all at once.

“Hmm…”

An unprecedented excitement surged through Raiga’s body.

“This isn’t bad at all.”

It felt like all the frustration he’d been feeling towards the Demon King and his subordinates suddenly vanished.

“Hey, is there more of this potion?”

he asked his aide.

“Yes, my lord. The merchant said he could provide as much as you need.”

“Tell him to bring all he has.”

With that, Raiga surrendered himself to the indescribable satisfaction he hadn’t felt in a long time.

Demon King Bastouza was irritated.

Even after sending the Four Heavenly Kings back to their posts, the invasion wasn’t progressing at all.

He heard that a purple potion was popular, and the monsters were too obsessed with it to work properly.

“Those fools!”

The Demon King was supposed to have absolute power. It was unacceptable for some dubious potion to hinder his ambition of world domination.

So, the Demon King issued a ban on the potion. He announced that anyone who used, possessed, or gave the purple potion to others would be put to death without mercy.

Furthermore, he established an enforcement unit composed of undead and spirit-type monsters who couldn’t physically use the potion, aiming to strictly enforce military discipline.

“This should solve the problem,”

Bastouza thought at the time. Perhaps if Becker were still alive, he might have offered some advice, but there was no one around Bastouza now who could advise him.

The effect of Bastouza’s order was tremendous. In a bad way.

It faced fierce backlash from the addicted monsters, resulting in conflicts with the enforcement unit. Intense battles broke out everywhere.

Areas where the Four Heavenly Kings hadn’t touched the potion were still manageable, as the enforcement side had the upper hand.

But Raiga, the Beast King, who had been using the potion himself, rebelled against the order and completely annihilated the enforcement unit sent to him.

Raiga was now in a situation where excuses wouldn’t work, but in his mentally excited state, he didn’t seem to care much.

Moreover, by this time, Trao had started openly visiting Raiga to deliver potions.

Trao whispered to him,

“Lord Raiga, our factories are being destroyed by the Demon King’s men, and the potion supply is in jeopardy.”

“What?!”

The first half of Trao’s words wasn’t a lie. Some factories had been raided and destroyed by the enforcement unit. However, as the factories were scattered worldwide, the overall damage was minimal. Of course, Trao had no intention of continuing this business anyway.

“If someone as generous as you were the Demon King, Lord Raiga, I think we could have maintained a good relationship. I can’t help but feel regret…”

Trao said, hanging his head in pretend sorrow.

“It’s because that guy is the Demon King that things are bad! That guy…”

Raiga started muttering, his eyes unfocused.

“That’s right, Lord Raiga! It’s the Demon King’s fault! You should be the Demon King now!”

The surrounding aides also began to suggest rebellion. They were all potion addicts. A life without the potion was unthinkable for them.

Incidentally, the conscientious aides who didn’t use the potion had been secretly disposed of by Trao. There was no one left to stop Raiga now.

“Alright! I’ll become the Demon King! All troops, we’re returning to the Demon King’s territory! The demons are few in number! Now is our chance!”

Raiga gave the order, and his aides and subordinates supported it.

“As expected of Lord Raiga. We will support you with what little power we have,”

Trao said, providing weapons and armor to Raiga’s Beast King Army, boosting their fighting power.

The Beast King Army, led by the rebellious Raiga, quickly invaded the Demon King’s territory. There was no one to block their path. The armies of the other Four Heavenly Kings were struggling with internal rebellions of potion addicts and were in no condition to respond.

Of course, they engaged in battle with the Demon King’s army waiting in the Demon King’s territory.

The Demon King’s army, mobilizing all monsters, overwhelmed the Beast King Army in numbers. However, the Beast King Army, well-equipped and with morale abnormally high due to the potion’s effects, managed to break through.

And now, the Beast King Army has stormed the Demon King’s castle, engaged in fierce battles with the demon race defending it.

Normally, demons would be stronger than beastmen, but now the demons were few in number, and the beastmen were unusually well-equipped, giving them the advantage.

Moreover, having lost Becker, the demon race had no powerful warriors. There was no one who could stop Raiga except the Demon King himself.

Finally, Raiga and his beastman warriors burst into the throne room where the Demon King was.

Demon King Bastouza, with his six eyes and six arms, condemned Raiga:

“So you were the traitor after all, Raiga!”

“What are you talking about? This all happened because of you!”

Their words didn’t match. Words had no meaning anymore.

The next moment, Raiga lunged at Bastouza.

Bastouza released a black wave, blasting Raiga away.

“Tch! Surround him, all of you!”

Raiga, quickly regaining his composure, ordered his subordinates. The beastmen, who had consumed potions enhanced with a “Frenzy” effect by Dominique, fearlessly surrounded Bastouza.

“Weaklings!”

As Bastouza waved one of the staffs in his hands, black flames erupted, engulfing the surrounding beastmen.

The beastmen turned to ash in an instant. But Raiga forcibly broke through the flames and leaped towards Bastouza.

“Oraaaa!!”

Just as Raiga’s sword was about to reach Bastouza, a spear pierced Raiga’s chest.

It was one of the weapons held by Bastouza’s six arms. The spear, imbued with powerful lightning, killed Raiga instantly with its electric shock.

“Fool,”

Bastouza said, incinerating Raiga’s body with black flames, leaving not even ashes behind.
