Scientist for an Evil Organization Volume 1 Chapter 4 part 1

Chapter 4: About the Café and Cheap Prices

Near Prefectural Neto-Ra Academy, there’s a café called “Nil.”

It has a relaxed atmosphere, but the prices are affordable for high school students. You can enjoy not only coffee and tea but also various sweets and light meals.

The café with its traditional charm is Zero Osuke’s castle.

His previous job was physically and mentally demanding, but now he works at a leisurely pace.

“Master, good work today.”

“Ah, Eiko. Good work to you too.”

“I’ll change and be right back.”

After school, Kutani Eiko, a staff member, arrives at the café.

She’s a second-year student at Neto-Ra Academy, with shoulder-length black hair and a neatly worn uniform. She wears glasses, but her eyesight is fine. She laughs, saying it’s “a disguise to blend in with the surroundings.”

Contrary to her serious appearance, she has a good figure and is said to be one of the top five beauties at the academy. Male students have been visiting more often to see her charming waitress appearance, leaving Zero with mixed feelings of happiness and concern.

“It’s been a year since we opened. Nil has become a popular spot.”

“It’s thanks to you, Eiko.”

“It’s because of your cakes, Master.”

“Oh, that’s nice of you to say. Alright, today’s dessert is strawberry shortcake.”

“Yay, I love you, Zero-san!”

They exchange light banter while working.

Eiko isn’t just a part-timer; she’s a girl Zero looks after due to certain circumstances.

When they first met, she was about nine years old. Zero became Eiko’s guardian after she lost her parents. Since he’s only 28, he’s more like an older brother figure.

Eiko is very fond of the not-so-friendly Zero, and when he quit his previous job and moved to this town, she followed without complaint. Even though she’s 17 now and could live more freely, she became a waitress without being asked and helps out at the café proactively.

Thanks to her, Café Nil is doing quite well today. As they run the café together, a new customer arrives.

“Hello, Master.”

The newcomer is a handsome young man with silver hair and heterochromia. He’s wearing a subdued suit that fits modern Japan, but he’s not even from this dimension, let alone this country.

Like Zero, he’s a visitor from another dimension.

He’s one of the four executives of the Spiritual Society company Delnkeim , Halvied-Calm-Sein.

“Hey, welcome.”

“It’s been a week, Chief Executive – Cursed Spirit Sword King Zeros-sama.”

Hal says in a small voice so others can’t hear.

Zero is an alias in Japan; Zeros-Cleithia is his real name.

Zeros once held the position of Chief Executive at Delnkeim . However, he left the organization after a small dispute.

“I’m now the café master, Osuke Zero, Hal.”

“My apologies.”

The handsome young man looked genuinely disappointed at the response.

Female customers’ eyes are drawn to the silver-haired hottie who appeared in the store. Zero thinks his own face is fairly well-arranged, but he loses to Hal in terms of looks. Eiko says, “Zero-san is more wild, manly, and good-looking,” but that’s probably her bias.

“Then, Master. I’d like the cake set.”

“Alright, and for tea?”

“I’m not well-versed, so I’d be happy if you could choose for me.”

Zero knows well that Hal is a disappointing guy, though he acts refined in public. He’ll never forget the time Hal got drunk and inserted mint tablets into his anus, writhing in agony.

However, as long as he behaves normally, he’s a good customer who always spends money properly.

“Here you go.”

“Ah, thank you. Eiko, you’ve really gotten used to being a waitress.”

“Oh no, this much is natural for someone supporting Zero-san… I mean, the Master.”

Eiko also used to be affiliated with Delnkeim as combat personnel A-ko, so she’s acquainted with Hal.

She knows Hal’s appearance in just his underwear drinking beer, so she’s not fooled by his handsome looks.

“Delicious… Ah, Master. While I’m here, could I order a whole cake to take home?”

“Hal’s really become a regular customer, huh.”

“I’m tired, you see. After all, my boss quit to run a café leisurely, and my colleagues are gone too. Please allow me at least this much to relieve stress with sweets.”

“Ugh, I feel bad about that.”

Though his words are veiled, it’s true that Zero quitting the organization has made things busier. Hal’s workload has undoubtedly increased.

“Yes, yes, I forgive you. Oh, that smoked chicken club sandwich looks delicious too. Oh, you can take it to go as well?”

“…Hehe. I got it, I’ll give you a service.”

Hal smiles. He probably deliberately pressured Zero to not make him feel guilty.

This klutz still cares for the disloyal man who left the organization on his own. Of course, Zero cares about Hal too.

“Welcome!”

Eiko’s voice rings out as new customers arrive.

Three girls in uniforms are regulars at Nil, each with a different style but all eye-catching in appearance.

Kanno Satsuki. A first-year at Neto-Ra Academy and Eiko’s junior.

Along with Yuki Akane and Asahina moe. The two are middle school students who often come with Satsuki to eat cake.

“Ah, welcome. Kanno-san, Yuki-san, Asahi-san.”

“Hello, Master.”

Satsuki greets on behalf of the group.

Satsuki is usually close with Eiko, so through that connection, she has some interaction with Zero as well. So regardless of who they might be, he treats them as regular customers here.

“…Huh?”

Hal made a strange sound upon seeing Satsuki and the others.

He immediately took out his XR device [River]… a self-made communication device in the form of a smartphone with some extra functions, and started tapping the screen frantically. It had been a while since Zero had seen him this flustered.

185: Hakase

[BREAKING NEWS] I encountered the three from Lost Fairy while having an elegant tea time at a café.

186: Anonymous Combatant

How did that even happen!?

187: Anonymous Combatant

As expected of Hakase, you’ve got connections.

188: Hakase

I had a lot of work to do today as usual.

Strategizing as the tactical advisor and moving as part of the execution team.

What? Doesn’t that make separating the advisor and the team pointless?

Even in such a situation, the combatant who refuses to go into battle. M-man is playing the Pocky game with I-na-chan on his lap. As a result of too much stress buildup, I thought:

Ah, I’ll eat a ton of cake today.

189: Anonymous Combatant

Still as unreasonable and black company-like as ever.

190: Anonymous Combatant

Actually, if we stopped Hakase instead of the leader, wouldn’t Delnkeim be finished?

191: Anonymous Combatant

Playing the Pocky game with a 12-year-old is undoubtedly evil.

192: Hakase

So I went to Big Bro’s café.

The homemade cakes are delicious, and I was in the mood for an elegant tea time at a café rather than a family restaurant.

I was having a peaceful afternoon, horsing around with Big Bro after a long time… But suddenly, beautiful girls come into the store.

They weren’t transformed, but my eyes don’t deceive me.

They were Fiona-tan, Eres-chan, and Lurun-chan.

Undoubtedly the members of Lost Fairies.

193: Anonymous Combatant

What an incredible coincidence.

194: Anonymous Combatant

Can you really tell even when they’re not transformed?

195: Anonymous Combatant

Isn’t it fatal for a transformed heroine’s identity to be exposed?

196: Anonymous Combatant

Come to think of it, even though there are image collections and they don’t hide their faces, there’s no information about the Fairy-chans’ pre-transformation identities circulating at all.

You’d think at least some “Doesn’t this girl look similar?” kind of posts would show up on social media.

197: Anonymous Combatant

“If you don’t want your identity revealed…” would be the classic development, right?

198: Anonymous Combatant

It’s probably some kind of perception interference working, right?

199: Anonymous Combatant

Then why can Hakase notice?

200: Hakase

Even if there’s perception interference… my heart will find Fiona-tan.

Love wanders, seeking its other half.

201: Anonymous Combatant

Gross.

202: Anonymous Combatant

Are you kidding?

203: Anonymous Combatant

Die.

204: Hakase

To be serious, I can smell the fairy scent from the three Lost Fairy girls. Of course I can tell.

205: Anonymous Combatant

Lost Fairy-chan, you’re being careless!?

206: Anonymous Combatant

No way, being able to tell by smell is surely unexpected.

207: Anonymous Combatant

Either way, Hakase seems like a pervert.

208: Hakase

I may not look it, but I’m a genius spiritual engineer, so my sensitivity to mystical things is high to begin with.

To be frank, only me, Big Bro, and the leader in the organization can detect the lingering scent of fairies.

It’s not something you’d notice unless you meet them directly, though.

209: Anonymous Combatant

Hey, have you forgotten where you are right now?
