C-level magic student Volume 1  Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Journey to the Royal Capital

In the same week as the regular exams at the Magic Academy.

Sion was visiting the royal capital on a weekend holiday.

From Ragatia, the western city of the kingdom where the academy is located, it’s about a two-hour ride by magic-powered train to reach the royal capital.

On this day, there was an exhibition of magic-related products for magicians and merchants held once every six months at a venue in the royal capital.

This exhibition was the reason Sion, who usually dedicates his holidays to magical studies, took the time for the long journey to the royal capital.

Normally, only magicians and merchants above a certain rank are allowed entry, and Sion, a mere C-class magic student, wouldn’t qualify. However, this time, Sion was able to participate in the exhibition using an entry pass he received from his father.

Sion’s father is a renowned merchant in the country and has participated in this exhibition many times before. Due to scheduling conflicts, he couldn’t attend this time and passed the entry pass to Sion.

This exhibition showcased a wide variety of magical tools, from everyday items that even ordinary people could use to professional combat gear, as well as new products of equipment and accessories for magicians.

Faced with the array of fascinating products, Sion was internally excited like a child, but he never showed it outwardly, maintaining his usual cool expression as he toured the venue.

While enjoying the displayed products, he also seemed to relish the situation of blending in with the high-class magicians who exuded an air of sophistication, pretending to be on par with them.

After about an hour and a half of circulating through the various booths, mingling with other magicians and merchants with a practiced air:

“…That was a fulfilling time.”

Sion left the venue looking very satisfied.

When he arrived, Sion only had his entry pass and wallet, but now he held a pair of black gloves in his hand.

While this exhibition was primarily for product introductions and only took bulk orders rather than individual sales, some booths offered product samples.

The black gloves Sion now possessed were one such sample. They were black leather gloves with the fingertips cut off, commonly known as open-finger gloves.

These were one of the products that most appealed to Sion’s sensibilities at the venue, and the merchant in charge gladly provided them when Sion showed interest.

“…Well then. Shall we go there next?”

Feeling quite pleased, he left the venue and headed towards his favorite spot that he frequently visits when in the royal capital.

After the exhibition, Sion headed to the southwestern outskirts of the royal capital… and further beyond to an abandoned factory site.

Previously, many factories operated here, but due to poor location, they gradually relocated. About fifty years ago, all factories had moved out. Now, it’s an uninhabited area with only abandoned factories remaining.

This deserted factory site was Sion’s favorite spot that he frequently visits when in the royal capital.

For ordinary people, it would be a desolate area with no entertainment or tourist appeal, but for Sion, this street lined with abandoned factories had an irresistibly dark atmosphere.

Sion walked through the factory site dressed all in black – a black overcoat, black pants, black boots, and cleverly wearing the gloves he got from the exhibition.

In the dark atmosphere that seemed to harbor something sinister, he indulged in fantasies of being a member of an underworld organization.

As night fell and darkness set in, he climbed to the roof of an abandoned factory, letting his hair and coat flutter in the wind. It was an action without any particular meaning.

…Then.

“No!! Stop, don’t come near!!”

“!!”

Suddenly, a woman’s scream was heard from a short distance away.

As Sion turned his gaze towards the source of the voice, he saw a lone figure being chased by three men–
