C-level magic student Volume 1  Chapter 10 part 1

Chapter 10: The Invasion

That day, the peaceful routine at Crawford School of Magic was shattered by a sudden explosion and shockwave. The cafeteria wall burst open, scattering debris with a tremendous blast.

Then, the enormous “thing” that peeked through the hole in the wall let out a roar. It was a terrifying roar that shook the air, threatening to collapse the building with its vibration – a roar comparable to a natural disaster.

Immediately after the earth-shaking roar subsided,

one of the students who saw the pitch-black “thing” widened their eyes and screamed in a voice tinged with fear, their body trembling:

“D-Dragon!!!”

Following that scream, as if a dam had burst, the students in the cafeteria began to raise their voices in terror one after another.

“Uwaaaaah!?”

“Why is there a dragon here!?”

“R-Run!!!”

“Someone, someone help!!!”

Reactions to the sudden, overwhelming threat varied. Some were injured by debris from the exploding wall, others were paralyzed with fear, unable to move, while some panicked and ran screaming towards the exit at the back.

The jet-black dragon that suddenly appeared at the school seemed to be enjoying the sight.

“Good, good. This feeling… it’s been 400 years. Cry more. Scream more.”

“Fear me more.”

Just as the group that had rushed towards the back exit was about to pass through…

“–…!!”

Boom! An explosion occurred right in front of the leading student, and several students near the exit were blown away by the blast.

“Ugh… Uuu…”

As the students who had fallen to the ground groaned in pain, confused voices rose from those who had stopped in their tracks.

“What was that!?”

“W-What happened!?”

Then, a student who had been watching the dragon’s actions spoke up:

“F-Fireball!! That dragon spat out a huge fireball from its mouth!!”

Hearing this, the students’ fear of the dragon increased even more. Trying to escape before the next fireball came, they once again ran towards the exit, screaming.

“…Hey!! Hurry up!! What are you doing!?”

“The front is blocked!! Stop pushing!”

The exit was blocked by debris that had fallen from above, slowing the students’ escape.

In the midst of this surreal tension, students gasped in fear. One of them turned back towards the dragon and couldn’t help but shout:

“H-Hey! Look!! Another fireball!!”

“!!”

Behind the students, the dragon was opening its mouth again, generating another fireball.

“Damn it!! Fireball!”

As one of the students cast a spell towards the dragon, those around him, inspired, desperately launched their own spells in resistance.

“Uoooooh!! Water Bullet!!”

“Wind Cutter!”

The spells cast by the students hit the dragon one after another, but they didn’t even manage to scratch it, let alone stop its movement.

“…This is bad!! The fireball is coming!”

“Uwaaaah!!”

Just as the dragon pulled its head back slightly, preparing to launch the fireball…

“Giant’s Growth – Lightning Fist – Volt!!”

“…!!”

A massive lightning bolt in the shape of a fist struck the dragon’s face with a tremendous roar.

Although it didn’t seem to have taken any damage, the dragon dissolved the fireball and turned its gaze to the left, the direction from which the lightning had come.

“What a terrible stench. I thought I smelled it and came to see… Sure enough, it’s one of his bloodline.”

Standing there was Alphonse Fried, ranked second in the academy.

Alphonse called out to the students near the exit:

“I’ll buy you some time!! Stay calm and escape with the injured!!”

Saying this, Alphonse advanced towards the dragon, unleashing high-level spells one after another.

Spells of tremendous power exploded against the dragon in rapid succession.

“That guy is Alphonse Fried from the second year!! The S-class one!”

“Alphonse Fried… you mean the descendant of that great hero!?”

“Amazing! He’s stopping that dragon’s movements all by himself!”

“Now’s our chance to escape! Clear the debris and get out with the injured!!”

Seeing this sight, the students regained their composure and began to escape one after another while Alphonse was fighting.

“I won’t let you escape.”

The dragon, deflecting Alphonse’s attacks while watching the escaping students from the corner of its eye, once again launched a fireball towards the exit.

“I won’t allow it!! Full Metal Shield!!” Alphonse quickly chanted, creating a sturdy rock wall in the fireball’s path to block it.

“I’m your opponent, Schwarzwaldius, the Black Dragon of Extinction…!!”

Alphonse shouted in the dragon language to the jet-black dragon, which then turned its gaze back to him.

“…Opponent?”

And then, immediately after…

–Thud.

“–!?… Gah!”

The dragon, which should have been outside the building, appeared inside the cafeteria as if it had teleported, and struck Alphonse with its tail at a speed too fast for the eye to follow.

Receiving the tremendous impact, Alphonse was sent flying and crashed violently into a wall far behind him. The wall Alphonse hit was severely damaged from the impact.

“…Opponent? Don’t make me laugh.”

“Ugh… Hah…!!”

“As if the likes of you could be my opponent.”

The dragon had invaded the cafeteria. And the students, who had just witnessed Alphonse Fried, who had been displaying such incredible magic, being taken down in an instant, were once again gripped by despair.

“Uwaaah!! H-He’s been defeated…!”

“Damn it!! Hurry, get out!!”

The students began to panic again, rushing to escape.

However…

“Hey, this is bad! The wall is collapsing!!”

The upper part of the exit that the dragon had blown up earlier collapsed again, this time completely blocking the way out.

“N-No way…”

“That way! We have no choice but to escape that way!!”

As one student shouted, they started running towards the opposite direction – towards the hole the dragon had made when it appeared.

Seeing this, the other students followed, running towards the wall the dragon had destroyed. The expressions on all the students’ faces were a mix of desperation and fear.

“Kukuku… Good, good…”

The dragon seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the desperate sight of the students.

“Indeed, human fear is irresistible.”

The dragon launched a series of small fireballs towards the fleeing students, causing explosions around them.

The students ran desperately through the exploding cafeteria, screaming.

“More. Fear me more.”

The dragon launched even more fireballs.

“Kyaa!”

As the ground right next to her exploded while she was running, one female student was blown away by the blast and rolled on the ground.

“Uuu…”

As the female student tried to stand up, enduring the pain, one of the flying fireballs was approaching right in front of her.

“–!!”

The female student instinctively squeezed her eyes shut, resigned to her death.

However, the fireball never hit her.

“…? –!!”

When the female student cautiously opened her eyes, she saw Alphonse Fried standing in front of her, albeit in a shaky state. Moreover, in front of him was a wall he had created from the ground, which had blocked the incoming fireball.

“…Hah, hah. Are you… alright? Can you stand?”

“…Y-Yes…!!”

Asked this by Alphonse, the female student gritted her teeth and managed to stand up, enduring the pain.

“…Alright, then hurry and escape.”

Unable to speak properly due to fear, the female student just nodded slightly and then ran towards the huge hole in the wall that the dragon had made.

“…”

After watching her leave, Alphonse turned to face the dragon. The dragon addressed him:

“I was just enjoying the humans’ fear. Don’t interfere. –You’re not done yet.”

“Hah… hah… Not… done?”

“I will thoroughly torture and kill those of that man’s bloodline. I will never grant them an easy death. You’re saved for later enjoyment.”

“So,” it said, and then appeared in front of Alphonse again at a speed too fast for the eye to follow,

“!!”

“Step aside for a while.”

The dragon struck Alphonse with its foreleg.

It was just a light raising of its foreleg, as if swatting away an insect, but the power was tremendous. Alphonse was sent flying, crashing through the ceiling and into the second floor of the cafeteria.

“…Now, the nuisance is gone. Humans, let’s continue with the fear.”

…The injured students who had fallen behind in their escape were overcome with deep despair at this sight.

“Ugh… Uuu…”

Alphonse, who had been sent flying to the second floor by the dragon, remained collapsed on the floor for a short while.

But soon he mustered his strength and stood up, using his arm for support.

“…!?”

…And there, he witnessed a shocking sight.
