After My Sister Enrolling Volume 1 Epilogue + Afterword

Epilogue

It’s the first time Suzuha’s big brother looks so weak.

Toko chuckled to herself.

Surrounded by nobles, Suzuha’s big brother is flustered and overwhelmed by all the greetings and attention.

None of his dependable composure remains, the kind I saw when he fought the wandering vampire, or when he came to my rescue at the palace.

He just looks like a nice ordinary guy totally panicking.

“Toko,”

Yuzuriha approaches and greets me properly in front of the nobles.

I return pleasantries and step away from the crowd. Finally free of the nobles, I relax my formal demeanor.

“Phew…that was tiring.”

“Will you be okay? Today is your big celebration, right?”

Yuzuriha indirectly ask if Toko want to skip further greetings.

“It’s fine, fine. I’ve greeted the key nobles, and besides…”

Toko gaze turns to big brother of Suzuha, who’s distractedly glancing at a sushi stall as he somehow handles the nobles.

“The star today is Suzuha’s brother.”

“I suppose you’re right.”

“Really, this is such a relief–”

Toko formally became queen, but problems remain piled high.

The war with neighbor country started by my brothers still rages on.

We must swiftly redistribute land of the purged nobles.

And the coup removed far too many central power holders,

so stabilizing the queen’s rule will require tremendous time and effort.

Still…

“With you and Suzuha here, and most of all Suzuha’s big brother, we’ll be alright…won’t we?”

“Yes. It will be alright.”

As we speak, a cheer rises from Suzuha’s big brother.

Apparently a noble challenged him to a test of strength.

We both know this noble well.

Just earlier, he had objected to Toko addressing Suzuha’s big brother casually.

Though he quieted quickly with a few sharp words from Toko.

“He’s got martial skill, but his head is stubborn as a rock…”

“Well thanks to that, he survived both coups by not siding with either.”

The bald middle-aged noble grasps big brother’s hand, with a bright red face.

seemingly initiating a handshake but squeezing with all his might.

But big brother just looks puzzled.

“Haha! Big brother doesn’t even realize he’s being attacked!”

“Foolish man. He brags about crushing apples with his grip, yet thinks he can challenge Suzuha’s brother? Even the amazoness commanders were no match. Right?”

“If big brother got a little serious, he could easily crush that guy’s hand, or even his head.”

“Martial spirit has its merits, but this is too much…”

“That can be said for oblivious big brother too…”

Ah, it seems he finally noticed the noble’s death grip.

“He probably thinks it’s some noble entertainment?”

“I’ve got a bad feeling…Oww!?”

“Hahaha! He crushed the noble’s hand back!”

Knowing big brother, he likely just squeezed a little harder in return.

That’s what they were sure of.

Otherwise, the noble’s hand would be completely gone.

“I wanted big brother to show off his strength to the nobles somehow…but I guess that’s unnecessary now?”

“Seems so.”

A man who boasts of his strength, who had made a name for himself as a martial nobleman, is unable to even hold his own with pure brute force.

After witnessing this, no noble could insist Suzuha’s big brother’s achievements were flukes, or that he wrongfully took Yuzuriha’s power and authority.

Suzuha’s big brother looks worried as the noble rolls on the ground in pain, until some guards rush over and carry him to the infirmary.

The other nobles completely ignore this.

After picking a fight and losing so utterly, he’s irrelevant to them now.

The hierarchy is settled.

Sympathizing with the loser means pandering to the strong – that is rule one for nobles’ survival.

Big brother grows increasingly frazzled from the nobles’ intensifying overtures.

“They’re probably all asking him to take their daughters as wives?”

“Undoubtedly. Foolishness. Clearly his wife will be of my Sakuragi house.”

“Well until that’s decided, we have a chance to reverse the situation.”

After all, Yuzuriha has too many extreme traits that could disappoint suitors.

Like flat chest lovers, lolicon types…

“By the way Toko, doesn’t it look like Suzuha’s brother keeps glancing our way? Or is that my imagination?”

“Huh? Oh, that’s…”

“I see. So Suzuha’s brother is seeking my help after all?”

“No, I don’t think…”

“Fufu, what a helpless guy. I should accustom him to such occasions, yet even now he depends on his partner me during a pinch–! When trouble arises, he still seeks my aid. Can’t be helped!”

“Actually, I think he’s looking at…”

“Hold on! I’m coming to help, my dear partner–!”

With that declaration, Yuzuriha dashes off.

“Um, actually, I think big brother was looking at the sushi stall behind us?”

I was about to say that, but then I stopped myself.

Today is a joyous and significant day for the future of this country. I don’t want to spoil it.

After all,

today is the anniversary of successfully assigning the minimum possible rank to the most important person in the future of the nation.

Afterword

This work was originally posted as a web novel on Kakuyomu.

The reason I wrote it was because the Marie Antoinette residing in my mind demanded, “I want to read a laid-back isekai template. But none of those trendy publication templates, please!”

Such an unreasonable request led to this story being rather unconventional in content.

The most noticeable example is the heroines.

Typically, heroines come in a variety of types to cater to different reader preferences—like lolis, sickly characters, or those with animal ears. However, in this story, all the heroines are busty and combat geniuses, which is quite unusual. But hey, that’s just my personal taste. Tee-hee.

If this were a contest submission, the editor would likely tell me, “You should include at least one loli character.”

There are other peculiarities like this throughout the story, which I posted as a web novel with a lighthearted, “The internet is free, after all” attitude.

Unexpectedly, it was well-received. Many readers enjoyed it, and it even won a special award in the 7th Kakuyomu Web Novel Contest, which I had half-heartedly entered for promotion.

Honestly, I was the most surprised and a bit regretful.

If I had known, I would have chosen a more respectable pen name that I wouldn’t be embarrassed by.

──That aside, this story was written because it’s what I wanted to read.

If readers with similar tastes enjoy it on their commute or during their free time, and it brings a smile to their faces, then there is no greater joy.

Bringing this work to publication required the invaluable help of many people.

To the readers who read and commented on the web version, editor M, Natarsha for the super cute illustrations, and everyone involved with this work,

And most importantly, to you, the reader holding this book,

I offer my deepest gratitude.
